I started Taekwondo in 1988 at the age of 11 as I was low in confidence and used to get bullied at school, after my 1st class I was instantly hooked and it was apparent I had found a natural talent for this sport.

At the age of 16 I started training with the Great Britain team under the National coach Mark Richardson and was soon fighting all over the country and soon started the fly and fight overseas. My level of ability became very high and I took part in the Olympic team trials but was unlucky not to progress. My most memorable achievement was being chosen to fight in the World Taekwondo Championships in the Philippines in 1995 where I was beaten by the world bronze medallist from Mexico.

I then decided I would love to start teaching my own club so after gaining my black belt in 1996 I eventually took over my original club as the main coach and started Manchester Tigers. Since then I have continued to work hard building a successful club and helped many student gain their black belts and also 2 students be chosen for the Junior GB National Team FOR THE European Championships. In 2006 I was chosen again to be part of the Great Britain team at the European Team Championships in Sweden and I have also travelled to Korea for a 10 Day training and sight seeing tour.

In the later years after taking part in 8 British Championships I finally won Gold in 2012 then again in 2013 and 2017. 2 more memorable moments were being part of a Guinness World record attempt teaching part of the 800 KPMG staff members a routine that was performed in each city at the same time and it was awarded, them performing in front of the Queen and prince Philip during their visit to Manchester for the Golden Jubilee.

All in all over 30 years of Taekwondo and now have over 100 students. Taekwondo changed my life and made be a better person, I love helping changing other peoples lives teaching this amazing sport. Now I'm a daddy I look forward to the day I can teach my boys to hopefully become champions.

I started Tae Kwon Do in 1983, aged 18. I trained with my two brothers for 5 years, this was under the instruction of Master Shin, Shin’s Academy. Prior to Tae Kwon Do, I trained in Judo for 5 years, and post Tae Kwon Do I trained in Sho Ta Kan Karate for 6 years.

Due to family ties, commitments and my work career, I took a hiatus from all martial arts. Many years later, after watching my children train, I got the Tae Kwon Do bug and needed to get back. My return in 2008 was hard work, I had to build my fitness, lose weight and regain flexibility.

Due to the positive coaching techniques utilised by Jason, and the motivation he gives to all, I feel I have regained all of these attributes. This has increased my all round physical and mental fitness, giving me a determination to succeed, both in and out of Tae Kwon Do.

At any level, you are still learning the sport. With my years of training and experience, I find it important to pass on my knowledge to new and younger students, students who are just starting there Tae Kwon Do road to Black Belt.

I have trained hard since joining JM Tae Kwon Do, this has enabled me to grade thru the ranks to 1st Dan Black Belt, in 2012. I have continued to train hard, and graded through to 3rd Dan Black Belt, with my ultimate goal of 5th Dan Master.

The club provides a safe, positive and friendly environment, this under the instruction of Chief Instructor, Jason Mayoh. I cannot speak highly enough of the club, and more importantly of the encouragement and motivation given by Jason. I’m proud to be part of the club!

I started Taekwondo 17 years ago when I was 13. I started with a different instructor but when Jason opened his own club I quickly followed. I’ve been all over with Taekwondo the best place I’ve been was Korea in 2005 where we trained with the Koreans, which was a great experience. I’ve lost count off the amount of competitions I’ve been in. Taekwondo is in my blood and I look forward to each lesson, as the classes are never the same. Plus I get to kick people and not get into trouble for it!

The adrenalin rush that pumps through your body when you take that first hit in the ring; when you’re performing your pattern in front of a crowd; when you break a board for the first time; when you get your new belt after a hard grading and you know you’ve earned it; all that and a lot more make all the press ups, sit ups and burpees thoroughly worth it.

I started Taekwondo when I was 15 years old and I have now been training for 18 years. I fell in love with it right from the very start. I have always had an interest in martial arts and was inspired by the movies of Bruce Lee and Jet Li. The dynamic kicks and the acrobatic/gymnastic side of Taekwondo is what really caught my attention.

I began my W.T.F. training in Old Trafford with Master T W Shin (9th Dan) and then moved on to compete for Sheffield University in I.T.F. Taekwondo under Master John Gabbard (7th Dan). After returning from University, I continued training under the U.T.A. with Catherine Webb and Master Shin.

I joined J.M. Taekwondo three years ago and Jason has stretched my abilities and encouraged me to achieve my goals. The club caters for all abilities and provides excellent and well-structured lessons in a friendly environment. I have gained so much in terms of physical fitness, self-defence, competition fighting, sparring, kyukpa and poomsae – alongside training with excellent people. All the instructors have taught me to set high goals for myself and not let anything get in the way. I apply this to every single part of my life and love the success I’ve achieved so far.
